The annual Grad Knight party is a chance to give our seniors a wonderful memory, keep them safe, build on a tradition and provide them a stress-free alternative.
About 20 minutes following the graduation ceremony at UW’s Alaska Airlines Arena (Hec Edmundson Pavilion) is an all-night event for seniors only (and adult chaperones). Newport PTSA coordinates this exciting and fun all-night celebration.
This is an evening filled with friends, food, games, prizes and the making of many great memories.
Graduates don’t have to make a decision to drink or not to drink: there is no choice!
Everyone has a party to attend and celebrate together. No one is left out.
It will be the last time seniors will be together as a class.
Parents will know where their students are, what they are doing and that they are safe while having the time of their lives. And parents can actually go to bed and get a good night’s sleep.

No one from the Class of 2020 will want to miss this unique opportunity to be a part of a very special night together with friends for one last time. It promises to be an unforgettable night for our seniors – the final farewell and perfect send-off after 13 years of hard work. All NHS 2020 graduates who are qualified to participate in commencement can attend.
Prior to Grad Knight, graduates often “Party Hopped” in their effort to celebrate with as many of their classmates as possible. We will provide a safe, alcohol/drug free and fun alternative keeping kids off the roads and providing peace of mind to parents knowing that their kids are safely celebrating.
Grad Knight 2020 begins immediately following the graduation ceremony scheduled on June 16th, 8pm. There will be approximately 20-30 minutes following the ceremony for graduates to take photos with family members, change out of their caps and gowns, and check in for their memorable evening. Then they pull an “all-nighter!” The buses deliver the graduates back to Newport High School at approximately 5:00am the next morning.
They will be whisked away to venues reserved just for Newport’s graduating class. We keep the location secret to keep the graduates safe, to ensure that everyone has more fun, and to keep party-crashers out. They will eat plenty of food, enjoy lots of entertainment and activities, and enjoy spending time with their fellow graduates in a safe, fun environment.
Grad Knight is a PTSA-sponsored, non-profit event, orchestrated solely by parent volunteers. In order to host Grad Knight and keep event registration affordable, careful planning and fundraising must be done. The success of this event has always reflected the generous spirit of our community. Whether it’s supporting one of our many fundraisers or making a monetary donation, your contribution is greatly appreciated and is a vital part of our success.
Bus sign-ups take place in April/May. You can sign up with your friends as long as you’re all registered. Following graduation, there will be a check-in table for each bus. Each table will display a large poster listing the names of those on the bus. The buses are organized by color, and you will be given a wristband that matches your bus color.
Please leave all personal belongings, including cell phones, wallets and purses at home or with a parent or guardian. Non-cell phone cameras are permitted if labeled with your name, but you are responsible for them. You will be asked to surrender any personal belongings (except cameras) at check-in. These will be returned to you at the end of the event. To ensure the safety of all graduates, no alcohol, drugs, weapons or cell phones are permitted. Graduates will be searched before boarding buses.
We’ve got you covered. There will be boxes in each venue’s bathrooms (male and female) that contain items such as combs, brushes, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, etc. There will be special boxes held by the chaperones for graduates who require medication during the course of the evening.
Comfortable clothes and shoes.
Each venue provides food and drinks. Please let the Grad Knight committee know in advance of any special food needs.
The buses return you to NHS and a parent/guardian will be required to drive you home. And no, once you have agreed to participate, you need to remain with the group until everyone is returned safely in the morning.
Chaperones will address any issues that arise and if needed, a parent will be contacted to pick up the child.
